I can’t really recommend the gloomy art-house film Young Adam – there are probably better ways to spend your time – but the movie does feature a rather aggressive spanking and sploshing scene between Ewan McGregor (Joe) and the lovely Emily Mortimer (Cathie).
Joe is an unmotivated writer who squanders his day making a big bowl of creamy, yellow custard while his girlfriend, Cathie, is out working to pay the bills. When rain-soaked Cathie arrives home to find Joe sitting on his ass, she is understandably less than pleased.
As Cathie strips out of her wet clothes she prods Joe about his career choice and his time management skills. Joe explodes into a rage and poor topless Cathie ends up wearing most of the custard, after which Joe beats her harshly with a bamboo rod and then squirts ketchup all over her back.
It’s a scene of non-consensual violence and humiliation (Secretary this is not), but if you want to see young Obi-Wan Kenobi getting his spank on (and occasionally appearing full-frontal), Young Adam is available through Netflix.

In yet another example of real life being stranger than fiction, the hardcover book Secret Identity: The Fetish Art of Superman’s Co-creator Joe Shuster reveals how a giant of American popular culture became involved with a series of underground BDSM publications called Nights of Horror.

Woman: “So this guy, he knows how to handle a cane? I don’t want him hitting me in the wrong places.”
I continue to be amazed at the cultural minutia that’s archived online these days. Case in point: I was able to find a cover photo of this disco-era, pulp-fiction artifact, which was possibly my first exposure to adult spanking literature.
Have you ever noticed how portrayals of non-consensual BDSM-type activities are considered perfectly acceptable within works of science fiction or fantasy, but those same acts are still (often) judged as taboo or downright silly when practiced by consenting adults for mutual enjoyment?
Back in 1996, my exposure to spanking videos was still fairly limited – you mostly had to buy them on VHS tapes via mail order – so when the documentary Fetishes: Mistresses & Domination at Pandora’s Box played on HBO, I really hoped that it might feature a corporal punishment scene. And it did!
“My fantasy is to submit to a very powerful, dominant woman.”
