Available for a Limited Time

Years from now, today’s spanking fetishists may look back and remember this as the golden age of high-quality CP toys. Mass-market implements will always be around, but the work of celebrated craftspeople is only obtainable for a limited time.

Our community is very fortunate right now to have several specialty manufacturers, including The London Tanners, Exotic Paddles, Canes4Pain and others, crafting exceptional implements out of the best materials available. And we should applaud their contribution to the scene.

When these artisans retire — which hopefully won’t be for a long while – there might not be anyone with equivalent skills and dedication ready to fill the void.

Some of you may remember the handsome implements sold by The Toy Bag (above) which closed some time ago, or the fine work of Satinwood’s master craftsman (below), who sadly passed away a few years back. Their creations live on in collections worldwide, but the opportunity to buy their products new is gone forever.

So if you’ve had your eye on a handcrafted strap, paddle or cane from your favorite spanking toymaker, there’s no time like the present to acquire it. A quality implement will give you years of enjoyment and you’ll also be supporting some hardworking people who are truly dedicated to the spanking scene.

More Cultural Influences

I continue to be amazed at the cultural minutia that’s archived online these days. Case in point: I was able to find a cover photo of this disco-era, pulp-fiction artifact, which was possibly my first exposure to adult spanking literature.

As a small-town teen in the 1980s, my access to spanking porn was particularly limited. But as the saying goes, even a blind rooster finds a kernel once in a while.

My dad was renovating an old commercial building downtown and drafted me to haul several mountains of grimy junk and debris out of the basement. The fetish gods must have been smiling on my efforts though, because during that process I uncovered (and pocketed) a weathered copy of the 1975 masterpiece Cherry Delight, The Big Bankroll, book 22 in the Sexecutioner series.

The text above the title read “Cherry didn’t mind a little kinkiness, until it led to killing,” but I assumed the book was just a cheesy soft-core paperback.

Imagine my surprise then when I discovered that my trashy crime novel was loaded with adult spanking scenes. (Bonanza!) Here are some of the highlights:

Judo and firearms expert Cherry Delight is a top agent of the secretive New York Mafia Prosecution and Harassment Organization (N.Y.M.P.H.O.).

The book opens with a high-end escort visiting one of the city’s crime bosses for an evening of spanking and sex. Afterwards, the girl steals the client’s signet ring as she’s leaving his luxury apartment – which earns her a belting later in the book.

To gather evidence on the crime boss, Cherry Delight poses as a call girl herself and submits to a sexual spanking, which she enjoys. However when the boss threatens to give Cherry a strapping, she takes control and whips him with his own belt.

As I recall the story also featured copious sex, a little bondage, naked gun fights and some sort of conflict resolution. (Hey, this would make a good movie.) The spanking scenes are what I remember most though.

My personal copy of The Big Bankroll is long gone, but I see that vintage copies are still available online for around $25. That’s surprisingly good appreciation for an obscure $1.25 paperback. Maybe I’m not the only one who remembers it fondly.

The London Tanner Is Back!

The nicest present I received for Christmas 2009 was a limited-edition holiday razor strop from The London Tanners.

It’s one of only two made, I’m told, and one of the last items to be crafted at London Tanners World Headquarters in Florida before the company temporarily suspended operations and moved to England.

Fortunately for spankos everywhere, the London Tanner is back in production and proudly offering his Austere English Collection of CP implements, crafted from extremely high quality (and rare) oak-tanned leather.

All of Ian’s creations are excellent, but I especially recommend the Spanking Strop, the CP Ruler Strap, the Domestic Discipline Strap and the awsome Canadian Prison Strap. They are all personal favorites and I literally don’t travel to any spanking parties without them.

“What Are You Humans Doing?”

We’re confident that no animals were spanked during the shooting of Alison Miller and Allaurua Shane’s new Sorority Sisters video, though the sound of paddle smacks did make a certain four-legged extra flee the scene.

The little fellow begins the video clip safely tucked under Alison’s legs, but he is obviously alarmed by the pistol-crack sounds of wood splatting against naked girl flesh.

The well-dressed canine did nothing to help Allaura in her time of need, though as you can see at the bottom of the post-spanking photo, he did give her leg a conciliatory sniff after the paddling had concluded.

Comic Book Kink

Have you ever noticed how portrayals of non-consensual BDSM-type activities are considered perfectly acceptable within works of science fiction or fantasy, but those same acts are still (often) judged as taboo or downright silly when practiced by consenting adults for mutual enjoyment?

I submit into evidence the July 1979 issue of The Savage Sword of Conan, which any kink-curious teen could purchase from the magazine rack at Safeway for the modest sum of one U.S. dollar. No age restrictions and no raised eyebrows at the checkout counter.

This particular comic tells the story of a nearly-naked wench who is suspended by her wrists and mercilessly interrogated by the whip-wielding Amazon queen. The plucky gal eventually slips out of her restraints and goes scampering around the dungeon to rescue Conan, wearing just her welts and a ragged loin cloth.

Yep, that was a dollar well spent.

However, if an adult magazine in 1979 had published a serious article entitled Girl-on-Girl Whipping Fantasies, you certainly wouldn’t find that issue at the supermarket. It would most likely be relegated to the “Special” section of the creepy adult video store.

So the moral of this story is: It’s apparently fine to portray acts of bondage and flagellation in mainstream media – as long as the participants aren’t enjoying themselves. (Because that’s perverted.)

Pandora’s Box Documentary

Back in 1996, my exposure to spanking videos was still fairly limited – you mostly had to buy them on VHS tapes via mail order – so when the documentary Fetishes: Mistresses & Domination at Pandora’s Box played on HBO, I really hoped that it might feature a corporal punishment scene. And it did!

Filmmaker Nick Broomfield took a documentary crew inside Pandora’s Box, a high-end S&M parlor on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, where he interviewed several ProDoms and their clients, and even filmed some actual sessions.

One segment in particular piqued my interest: A professional bottom named Mary discussed her personal corporal punishment fantasies and then participated in an intense caning scene. Here are a few excerpts from Mary’s interview:

“My fantasy is to submit to a very powerful, dominant woman.”

“I grew up in a male-dominated household and was constantly being punished for being out of line. I remember getting sexual satisfaction out of this.”
